Viktor Yanukovych, Ukrainia’s President, has criticized the decision of the national government to purchase Korean Hyundai trains for the national railways, which turned out to not be ready to work in the Ukranian realities and conditions.
Viktor Yanukovych, comments:
Why, having our own prototype of high-speed trains, the funds were invested in the purchase of imported equipment trains, instead the establishment of domestic production What was not clear to us that these trains are not suited to our conditions?
The interregional trains, produced by Hyundai Rotem began to run on the railways of Ukraine from May 27, 2012 under the name "Ukrainian Express".
In December 2012, due to a sharp deterioration of weather conditions in Ukraine, the majority of these trains broke down. On December 20, Hyundai apologized for the inconvenience caused to the Ukrainian passengers when using the high-speed train its own production and announced the beginning of work on the elimination of faults, which are primarily related to difficult winter weather conditions.
Omn December 24, former Deputy Prime Ministe of Ukraine Borys Kolesnikov said that the experts Hyundai will eliminate defects of the trains during the next 2-3 weeks.
Kolesnikov also explained that Ukraine forced to import trains, due to the fact that the domestic producer Kriukov Car Plant sets unreasonable prices for its trains.
