Network Rail and government funds aim to pay for major upgrade to London-Thanet rail line. 12 million pounds to be sent to cut journey time by ten minutes. At the same time the train commute will be reduced from 73-minutes to just over an hour.
The infrastructure and operational changes will reduce journeys from 71 minutes in peak times to 63 minutes due to faster speeds along the route.
UK Transport Secretary Patrick McLouglin said it was part of a long-term plan to develop infrastructure for a better future for Kent region.
Planned infrastructure upgrades include changes to the track, bridges, signaling and level crossings, which will increase line speed from the current maximum of 70mph in some areas to at least 80mph.
In Addition, the plans for a new £14m railway station in Thanet with links to London's Stratford International have been unveiled. Passengers would be able to travel from Thanet Parkway to London in about an hour from 2019,
