Published: Fri, 2015-02-20 09:54Indonesia’s KCJ, is planning to introduce contactless card tickets as well as FeliCa embedded wristbands and NFC mobile phone service for passengers.
The rail operator will adopt Sony’s FeliCa technology for its IC ticket operation. "KCJ wants to harness Sony`s experience in providing FeliCa card as well as mobile technology to improve the lives of our passengers. The ability to read all types of chip will ease intermodal integration in the future because our devices are able to identify any type of electronic tickets that other transportation operators may develop later,” said, Tri Handoyo, CEO, KCJ.
KCJ will introduce the new card and wristband in February 2015. The other devices and services will be made available for the passengers from mid-2015.
KCJ operates a rail system covering the metropolitan area of Jakarta, with 64 stations covering 182 km and serving 700,000 passengers on a daily basis. Handoyo added, “KCJ will have one of the most advanced electronic ticketing systems in Asia Pacific. In addition to that, our system can also implement Mobile NFC e-Wallet both as ticket and as medium of exchange - Sony`s experience in other markets with similar expansion will greatly benefit KCJ."
