Russian government to provide support for commuter rail transportations
Published: Wed, 2015-02-25 14:13Russian RZD should reduce costs on commuter rail transportations (CRT) this year by at least 5%, according to Arkady Dvorkovich, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister.
According to him, so far, the government has designed a number of measures of additional support of CRT, among which are zeroing out of VAT, the reduction of infrastructure charges to 0.01% and the allocation of funds to compensate the operations of CRT to Russian regions.
During the meeting with Russia’s President Putin Dvorkovich noted that the Finance Ministry has not yet agreed the allocation of additional funds on CRT, however there is a possibility that such a decision will be taken in the coming days.
Currently the situation with CRT in Russia remains complex. According to earlier statements of Alexei Tsydenov, Russia’s Deputy Transport Minister, the introduction of zero VAT on commuter rail transportation and the return of preferential tariff rates for the use of rail infrastructure for CRT will not allow to completely solve the problem of a shortage of funds of CRT in Russia.
