New strategic rail line to be built in Latvia
Published: Thu, 2015-03-05 12:37The government of Latvia plans to allocate up to 400 million euros in the building of a rail line that will connect the Central Station and airport of the city of Riga, Latvia’s capital, according to Anrijs Matisse, Latvia’s Minister of Transpor.
Implementation of the project will be part of the Rail Baltica II project, which involves building of a rail line that will provide direct rail connection of Helsinki with Berlin through the three Baltic countries and Poland.
As part of these plans is also the complete reconstruction of the Riga central railway junction, as well as building of a railway station in the Riga airport and other railway infrastructure.
