Russia continues tests of the world’s most powerful locomotive – Ermak
Published: Thu, 2015-03-19 15:33The Russian government, together with national railway carrier RZD, continue tests of Ermak four-section locomotive, which is the world’s most powerful locomotive.
At present tests are carried out on the Eastern polygon of RZD. The locomotive has been tested in Smolyaninovo – Nakhodka section, which is one of the most difficult railway sections in Russia.
This is one of the strategic directions, where exports of Russian goods to the countries of East Asia are carried out. It is planned that the use of new locomotives has allowed to significantly increase the volume of supplies.
The new locomotives will be able to provide the movement of heavy trains, with the weight up to 7,100 tons.
The capacity of Ermak locomotives is 13,120 kilowatts.
