New railway line will connect Iran and Iraq
Published: Wed, 2015-04-22 12:36The governments of Iran and Iraq have signed an agreement for the building of a new railway line that will connect the Iraqi Basra province with Iran and will have the length of 32 km.
The project also involves building of the railway bridge with the length of 700 meters from the island of Sinbad in Basra to the coast of the Shatt al-Arab river in Iran.
According to Baqir Jabr al-Zubeidi, the Minister of Transport of Iraq, the volume of investments in the project is expected to reach US$45 million.
According to him, implementation of the project will help to link Iraq with some Asian states, and in particular China, Azerbaijan, Armenia on the "Silk Road" through Iran.
It is expected that the project will be completed in 20 months.
