A new ferry complex is to be built in the port of Kuryk in Kazakhstan on the Caspian Sea, as part of the country’s new “Nurly zhol” economic policy.
On October 1 2014 the Kazakh Head of State inaugurated work on the Borzhakty - Ersai railway line to the future ferry complex, which is currently under construction. The railway line with the ferry service will enhance the transit potential of Kazakhstan to the west through the ports on the Caspian Sea.
With the commissioning of the Arkalyk-Shubarkol, Zhezkazgan-Beineu railway line and the development of the Khorgos-Eastern Gate SEZ, a new supply chain is being created for the transportation of goods from China through Kazakhstan to Europe, Iran and the Gulf countries, and this requires appropriate development of transport infrastructure in the Caspian region, said the head of KTZ, Askar Mamin.
The Kuryk ferry complex will provide transport to neighboring countries in the Caspian region without the need for unloading.
