Russia and Finland has signed an agreement about the increase of the volume of passenger railway transportations between the two countries, according to press-service of the Russian government.
The new agreement has replaced the outdated legislative acts for railways transportations between the two countries, and in particular an intergovernmental agreement on the Russian-Finnish direct international rail transportations and the Border Agreement of 1948.
The agreement opens new opportunities that will boost the competitiveness of RZD, taking into account that, to date, passenger and container rail transportations between Russia and Finland have been carried out through only one of the four existing Russian-Finnish border crossings - Brusnichnoe.
According to Vadim Morozov, RZD’s First Vice President, the new agreement should increase the volume of passenger rail transportations between the two countries up to 600,000 passengers per year.
