This year the Swedish Government wants to invest 66 million euros to improve rail maintenance. Later, during the following three years more than 100 million euros a year will be added to that.
Several rail experts are, however, not convinced whether these investments are good enough “because no one can say with certainty where the money will be used most advantageously”.
This investment package, which is embedded in the upcoming so called Springtime supplementary budget, was presented newly by the Prime minister Stefan Löfven, Minister of Finance, Magdalena Andersson , Minister of Climate and Environment, Åsa Romson and Minister of Education, Gustav Fridolin.
- Our aim is to provide a more reliable railway system without any delay. The focus will be on the bottlenecks and the busiest routes, explained Stefan Löfven.
All ministers highlighted that the maintenance is neglected, which affect harmful ways both travelers and industry.
- We all have been standing on a station platform and waiting for trains which never appeared, which creates a great frustration, said Minister of Education. Gustav Fridolin.
