The municipal authorities of Bordeaux have placed an order for a further five Citadis trams from French manufacturer Alstom. The low-floor trams will be fitted with a total length of 44 metres, and enabled to accommodate between 220 and 300 passengers each, the manufacturer said in a statement.
“These five new trams will be designed and produced in France to high levels of quality and respect for deadlines,” said Ana Giros, Senior Vice-President at Alstom Transport France.
The manufacturer says that the new trams are to be fitted with ground-level power supply (APS), air conditioning and a video surveillance system.
The amount of the latest order was not disclosed.
The rolling stock will be jointly made at the company’s five production facilities in France. These will include the plants in La Rochelle, Ornans, Le Creusot, Tarbes and Villeurbanne, according to data from the manufacturer.
With a total of 105 trams, Bordeaux is expected to own one of the largest tram fleets in France. The municipality operates a tram network fitted with a total length of 79 km.
