Uzbekistan to invest $10 billion in development of national railway infrastructure

Up to US$10 billion will be invested in the development of the railway infastructure of Uzbekistan by 2019, according to a state program, which was recently approved by the Uzbek government.
As part of the plans is building of the Angren - Pap railway line, which is expected to become one of Uzbek longest rail lines.
In recent years the Uzbek government has already invested a significant volume of funds in the modernization of the national railway infrastructure. During the period of 2000-2012 the length of Uzbek railways has increased from 3,471.5 km to 4191.8 km, while the volume of transported cargo - from 46.9 to 76.7 billion t/km and, according to state plans, these figures should be significantly increased during the next several years.
As part of the state plans, is more active electrification of the Uzbek rail lines, as well change of the principles of setting rail tariffs and the provision of an access of private rail cargo companies to the railway infrastructure.
