RZD purchases three "Ermak" electric locomotives
Published: Tue, 2014-12-30 11:01Russian Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, which is part of Transmashholding, Russia’s largest producer of rolling stock, plans to supply RZD three new four-sections 4ES5K "Ermak" electric locomotives to RZD by the end of the current year, according to press service of the company.
At the same time it is planned that the volume of Ermak supplies in 2015 will depend on the investment program of RZD, which has not yet been approved. The power of the locomotive allows to drive heavy trains weighing up to 7,100 tonnes in complex natural terrain. It is expected that the new locomotives will be operated in the east of Russia and in particular in the areas of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, modernization which is currently being implemented by the Russian government.
According to earlier reports of RZD, the company’s needs in such locomotives is estimated at 53 units by 2020. At the same time the overal portfolio of orders of Novocherkassk from RZD is 330 sections of electric locomotives of various modifications.
