Baltics states to receive funding for Rail Baltica II project
Published: Tue, 2015-03-03 08:00The Baltics states together Poland and Finland has submitted an official letter to the European Commission for the provision of funding for the implementation of Rail Baltica II, a project, which involves building of a rail line that will provide direct rail connection of Helsinki with Berlin through the three Baltic countries and Poland.
The cost of the project is estimated at EUR 3,68 billion.
Earlier this year analysts said about the economical inexpediency of the project, however, according to plans of the Latvian government and the governments of other Baltics states, it should be implemented in time.
It is planned that length of the Estonian section of the rail line will be 229 km, while Latvian - 235 km, while in the case of Lithuania - 264 kilometers.
