RZD starts tests of Ermak locomotives
Published: Fri, 2015-02-20 15:08Far Eastern Railway, a branch of RZD and a railway in Russia that crosses Primorsky Krai,Khabarovsk Krai, Amur Oblast, Jewish Autonomous Oblast, and Yakutia, has started tests of 4ES5K "Ermak" locomotives, the world’s most powerful locomotives.
According to Alexei Bragin, an official spokesman of Far Eastern Railway, the new four-section locomotives are tested under the conditions of the complex natural landscape in the area of Smolyaninovo - Nakhodka, which is characterized by the presence of mining and saddle areas with steep slopes and places with small radius curves.
He has also added that after the completion of tests these locomotives will provide a unified movement of heavy trains weighing up to 7,100 tonnes in the Eastern range of RZD.
