Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant suspended production of Ermak electric locomotives
Published: Wed, 2015-02-04 08:04Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, one of Russia’s largest producers of electric locomotives (which is part ofTransmashholding) has officially suspended its operations, due to a lack of orders since February 1 of the current year, according to general director of the company Igor Shedrov.
According to press-service of the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, the company had a one-year contract for the supply of 334 rail sections for RZD, however the latter decided to suspend supplies until 2016.
So far, the Novocherkassk Plant has been specializing on the production of four-part main line Ermak electric locomotives, which have the capacity to drive heavy trains weighing up to 7,000 tonnes to RZD. RZD’s need for such locomotives estimated at 53 units until 2020.
