Volume of railway transportations to decline in Russia

From the current 85 per cent to 83 per cent by 2030
The share of RZD in the national market of cargo transportations will decline from the current 85% to 83% by 2030, while the share of auto transport, in contrast, will increase to 11%, according to predictions of RZD.
During the next several years the volume of transportations of the most profitable cargo, among which are oil and oil products containers, construction materials, wood and others will decline in favor of pipelines as well as auto transport.
This will result in the decrease of RZD’s profitability.
In 2013, total cargo handling of RZD amounted to 1.37 billion tonnes. At the same time transportation of oil and oil products by rail transport in 2013 decreased by 3.1% to 250.3 million tonnes.
