Russia and Abkhazia may establish transit rail service to Georgia
Published: Fri, 2014-12-05 14:11Russia and Abkhazia may sign an agreement for the establishment of transit rail service in the Sukhumi - Tbilisi - Yerevan direction, according to an official spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Transport.
It is reported that the project has already received a support of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
Vladimir Putin comments:
"We are currently considering the possibility of the establishment of transit rail connection in the direction of Sukhumi - Tbilisi".
According to him, the implementation of the project will contribute to the creation of conditions for the development of relations between all the sides and will contribute to the improvement of relations between Georgia and Abkhazia, which significantly deteriorated after the military conflict in August, 2008.
