RZD, Transmashholding and Alstom to cooperate
Published: Wed, 2013-06-12 09:10Russian RZD has signed an agreement with Transmashholding, Russia’s largest producer of rolling stock and French Alstom on the joint development of a new mainline locomotive.
This will be dual-motive power locomotive cargo locomotive 2ES20 with asynchronous traction motors, the use of which will allow to reduce costs of maintaining of locomotives’ fleet.
It is planned that the partners will complete the development of design documentation of the locomotive by September of the current year, and start production and tests of the first locomotives by March of 2014.
The first locomotives are expected to be supplied to RZD on December of next year.
The production of the new locomotive will be launched at the capacities of the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, which is part of Transmashholding. Production of key components will be launched at the capacities of other plants, located within Russia.
