New strategy for development of rail transport in Russia

The Russian Ministry of Transport has developed a new strategy for the development of rail transport in Russia until 2030. As part of the strategy, the volume of investments in the development of rail transport in Russia by 2030 will reach 12.5 trillion rubles (US$300 billion).
The volume of cargo turnover should grow by 44%, compared to 2013 and reached 1.78 billion tons. At the same time the speed of cargo delivery will grow by 35%, compared to 2013 up to 400 km per day.
The strategy also involves building of the Moscow - Kazan and Moscow – Tver high-speed rail lines.
It is planned that by 2030 the Moscow - Kazan rail line should be extended to Yekaterinburg, while Moscow – Tver’s- to St. Petersburg .
At the same time by 2030 another high-speed rail line that will connect Moscow and Adler will be built.
