Russia to start bulding of Ukraine’s railway bypass in 2015
Published: Tue, 2014-12-09 15:00Building of a new railway bypass, which will allow trains to go to the south of Russia, without crossing the territory of Ukraine, will begin in 2015 and will be completed by 2018, according to Maxim Sokolov, Russian Transport Minister.
According to Sokolov, the idea for building of the bypass was for the first time put forward several years ago, however implementation of the project, so far, has been suspended.
Total volume of investments in the project is estimated at RUB 60 billion (US$1,7 billion), of which about 7 billion rubles will be provided in 2015, 18.5 billion rubles in 2016, and 31.1 billion rubles in 2017.
It is planned that Russian railway monopoly RZD will be responsible for implementation of the project. According to Vladimir Yakunin, head of the company, the project involves building of the 60 km railway line through the territory of challenging terrain.
