Indian Railways to provide Wi-Fi services at 400 stations
Published: Mon, 2014-12-15 13:00India’s Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha recently unveiled Indian Railway’s plan to introduce Wi-Fi services at 400 stations in the country. In addition, the Wi-Fi service will also be offered in a few selected trains among Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duranto Category.
Indian Railways has already commissioned Wi-Fi facility at Bengaluru station and in three rakes of Howrah Rajdhani Express. The plan to introduce Wi-Fi service at 75 ‘A1’ category stations is under execution.
“Provision of Wi-Fi Broadband facility in other select trains involves bandwidth from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and modification in Power Cars to house satellite antenna and associated equipments. It will take 18-24 months for completion, subject to availability of funds,” according to the report.
