Belgium’s Liege selects tram consortium
Published: Mon, 2014-12-15 14:58Belgium’s regional transport operator Societe Régionale Wallonne du Transport (SRWT) has entered into negotiations with the MobiLiege consortium, led by Alstom Transport and BAM, to design, build, finance and maintain the tram line in Liege, in the country’s southern part.
The planned line is to be put into service in the autumn of 2018, the company said in a statement. The amount of the potential deal was not disclosed.
Two shortlisted consortia submitted their bids for carrying out the investment this April. The second offer was placed by the Legiaexpress consortium, led by Bombardier and Vinci.
Jean-Marc Vandenbroucke, the general administrator of the SRWT, said that the SRWT is negotiating on the project with the MobiLiege consortium, but, should the talks fail to produce an understanding, regional authorities could sign a deal with the second shortlisted consortium.
“The signing of the DBFM (design, build, finance and maintain) contract is scheduled for the spring of 2015. This will be followed by a preparatory studies phase,” the SRWT said.
Under the plan, the tram line is to be fitted with a total length of 11 km, and it will consist of 21 stops. The link, located between Sclessin and Coronmeuse, is to be operated by 19 trams.
The private contractor will be awarded a contract for a period of 30.5 years, of which 3.5 years are to be earmarked for carrying out the construction works on the tram project, and a further 27 years for operating the designed line in Liege
