Alstom, Siemens, Skoda and Stadle will participate in a tender worth 18 billion rubles (USD$600 million) on the design and supply of double-deck commuter trains for the Russian "Aeroexpress" company for the transportation of passengers to Moscow airports.
The winner of the tender for 150 trains will be announced in January 2013. The new trains will be put into operation since 2015.
According to estimates of Aeroexpress, passenger traffic will double by 2015. In this regard, on spring this year, the company hired a Swiss Molinari Rail AG consultant for the selection of new rolling stock.
Among the companies, which were not able to qualify in the tender is the Korean Hyundai, Polish Pesa, as well as the Russian "Transmashholding" (TMX), which was represented by Tver Carriage Works.
According to some Russian analysts, Siemens has the best chances to win the tender, as the German company has a number of notable projects in Russia and a good relationship with the national railway industry.
