Warsaw orders trams for $55.4 million
Published: Wed, 2014-01-22 16:30Poland’s capital Warsaw has signed a contract with local rolling stock manufacturer PESA Bydgoszcz SA for the delivery of 30 three-car low-floor Jazz trams.
In the 134N variant, the trams are to have a length of 19.3 metres. They will be fitted with a seating capacity of 27 passengers and a total capacity of 132 passengers, local public transport company ZTW Warsaw said in a statement. The latest contract is worth some PLN 167.9 million ($55.4 million).
- Only a few years ago, low-floor trams were something of a rarity in Warsaw,” said Mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. „In 2015, as much as 60% of the trams operated in the capital will be low-floor.”
Deliveries of the new trams are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2015, and they will be completed by the end of September 2015. The acquisition is co-financed by funds obtained by Warsaw from the European Union’s Infrastructure and Environment operational programme, according to the statement.
