Uzbekistan Railways to be electrified
Published: Tue, 2014-08-05 14:22Chinese Corporation for Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Latvian Belam Riga won a tender for the supply of equipment for electrification of "Marakand-Karshi" railway line in the south of Uzbekistan, which is one of the country’s longest railway lines.
Under the conditions of the tender, CNTIC will supply transformer substations and catenary system, while Belam Riga systems of centralization and blocking, as well as system of telecommunications and alarm.
The tender was announced by the Uzbekistan Railways in April last year, while the amount of the contract is estimated at USD$51 million.
At present of the overal length of Uzbekistan railways of 4,200 km, only one thousand kilometers were electrified. According to state plans, 2000 kilometers of railways should be electrified during the next several years.
