Ukranian government agreed loan for building of railway tunnel
Published: Mon, 2014-09-22 13:27The European Investment Bank, one of EU’s largest banks, has confirmed that it will provide up to EUR 55 million to the Ukranian government for the implementation of the project for the building of the Beskydy railway tunnel, which is located on the Lviv Railway.
So far, the Ukranian government has already provided state guarantees to investor for the implementation of the project.
The tunnel is located in the Carpathians and replaces the old single-track tunnel with new two-track, which allows the movement of trains in both directions simultaneously. Beskydy tunnel is one of the priority transport projects under the “Eastern Partnership”.
As reported, the new tunnel will be built at the junction of the Lviv and Zakarpattya Regions 30 m from the existing tunnel, which built in the time of Austria-Hungary in the nineteenth century, which is in disrepair. Length of double-track tunnel will be 1.8 kilometers. Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine intends in 2014 to build around 0.7 km of Beskydy tunnel.
