Extra bidding time for Oman Rail tender
Published: Mon, 2014-12-29 11:00Oman Rail has allowed an extension for bidders to hand in their pricing offers for the $15bn Segment 1 section of the national rail project.
Oman rail section 1 will cover a 207 km stretch from country’s Sohar Port to Buraimi and is a important section of the project as it will be part of the Oman link of the GCC rail line.
Under the revised timeline, commercial bids are now due to come in by 1 March, 2015 according to an announcement by the national rail company. Technical offers must be handed in by 18 January, 2015.
The extension has been the second within a month due to a request by a large number of bidders seeking more time to price their offers amid ongoing economic instabilities resulting from falling oil prices.
In contention for the lucrative design and build package are 18 consortiums and joint ventures that have been prequalified by Oman Rail to compete for this segment.
The contract will encompass every aspect of rail design, engineering, supply, construction, installation and commissioning.
The successful contractor will be commissioned to undergo, among other things, topographic and geological surveys, earth work design, hydrology and drainage, design and construction, and construction of major and minor structures such as bridges, tunnels and viaducts.
Successful bidders will also be required to subcontract the procurement, supply, installation of commissioning of the plethora of communications and technology systems associated with the project to any one of the five consortiums prequalified by Oman Rail for the Rail Technology Systems package.
