Polish cross - border rail connection closed
Published: Tue, 2014-12-30 17:00German rail operator Deutsche Bahn Regio Nordost says it regrets the decision of the Polish PKP Przewozy Regionalne, to shut down the newly introduced cross border connection between Frankfurt (Oder) and Poznan on December 31. 2014.
These services on the Polish side cannot be funded further, announced PKP Przewozy Regionalne.
- This decision was an absolute surprise for us with reference to a long-standing order of a special Poznan-ticket which we introduced at the latest timetable change on 14 December, said Dr. Joachim Trettin, head of DB Regio Nordost.
However, the DB Regio Northeast is still interested in this connection and hopes to reach a renewal of operations through discussions with the PKP Przewozy Regionalne, a company that was spun off from the main PKP years ago.
Railroad pressure group DBV Landesverband Berlin-Brandenburg criticized that obviously the European integration on the rail still doesn't work correctly. The Federal and European policy should set its actions to focus on the cross-border rail traffic.
