Bidders invited for Tampere tram project
Published: Mon, 2015-01-19 09:00The authorities in this Finnish town have invited bidders to submit plans to operate and maintain a 250 million euro tram scheme networking the center to three adjacent neighborhoods.
Tampere authorities have put out to tender a contract to operate and maintain a tram system in the town.
The request for tender, published on Monday, calls for either a private company or consortium to submit bids by 13 February, and promises that a shortlist of possible winners will be drawn up during spring 2015.
The town board hopes to order between 15 and 30 tram carriages, along with needed spare parts and specialized tools, as well as to contract a company to carry out maintenance and repairs. The specification calls for vehicles which can drive in two directions.
The call for bids specifies a price of 3.2 million euros for a 30-metre carriage, and 3.8 million for a 40 meter carriage.
Town authorities have drawn up plans to install tram lines in stages, linking the town center to the Hervanta area in the south, the hospital to the north, and to Lentäväniemi in the northwest.
The planned total budget for the project is around 250 million euros. Final assessments regarding the construction of the scheme are due to be made in 2015-2016.
If everything goes to plan, the city will see trams running as early as 2019, with the three-stage project planned to be complete by 2023.
