New railway line will link Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China
Published: Thu, 2015-01-08 16:12A new railway line will link Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China, according to a recent agreement, signed among the governments of these countries.
The initiative for the building of a railway line was for the first time put forward in 2010, however a final agreement was reached only a week ago.
According to Sherali Gandzhalzod, Tajikistan’s First Deputy Transport Minister signing of the agreement is the first step towards the implementation of the project for the building of a railway line between Central Asia and China.
It is planned that the new rail line will pass through Afghanistan, from Nizhny Panj through the areas of Rumi, Javan, Vahdat, Faizobod and Jirgatal to Kyrgyzstan. In the case of successfull implementation, this will be the first railway in Central Asia, passing through the highlands.
The longest section of the rail line with the length of 1148 kilometers will pass through Afghanistan.
