Russia has invested about US$300 million in the reconstruction of the Hasan-Rajin railway line, (a rail line, which links Russia and North Korea) as well as in the modernization of the North Korean seaport of Rajin. Since the beginning of 2015 cargo turnover of the line has reached 360,000 tonnes and is expected to reach1.5 million tons by the end of the current year, according to Alexander Galushka, Russia’s Minister of Far East Development.
According to plans of the Russian government, amid Western sanctions, North Korea is expected to become a very important trade partner for Russia during the next several years. Cooperation will also take place in the field of railway infrastructure.
