Uzbekistan to invest $2 billion in Rail line
Published: Fri, 2013-08-02 14:01The government of Uzbekistan has started implementation of the $2 billion railway project, which involves building of the Angren-Pape railway line, one of the country’s longest rail lines, which will connect the Fergana Valley with the rest of the country, bypassing Tajikistan.
According to President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, who personally controls the implementation of the project, the length of the new line will be 125 km.
He noted that the project aims to create a single national rail network, which will cover all areas and regions of Uzbekistan.
The official commissioning of the new line is scheduled for 2016.
Funding for the project will be provided by the Uzbek government. Part of investments will be allocated from the own resources of Uzbekistan Railways and the loans from international banks.
