Finnish cold freezes trains and schedules
Published: Fri, 2015-01-23 17:11Finnish national rail services provider VR says it’s had to cancel 12 trains recently as a result of very low glacial temperatures. Meanwhile timetables will also be delayed on a number of lines, with services between Helsinki and Kerava worst affected.
Freezing cold temperatures have disrupted rail traffic across the country last days, forcing rail company VR to cancel 12 trips and delaying services otherwise.
The Helsinki- Kerava line has been worst hit by the effects of the deep freeze, with icebound tracks and carriages disrupting traffic heading into Helsinki.
VR said that the situation would ease as the early morning rush hour passes by and frosted carriages receive maintenance.
Meteorologists said that temperatures in the south plunged to -15 degrees Celsius and dropped even lower to -30 in the north.
