Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced the beginning of negotiations with the European Commission for the construction of a high-speed rail line, which will connect Bucharest, Iasi and Chisinau, according to local media reports.
Victor Ponta said that the Romanian government has started active negotiations with the European Commission, because implementation of the project is impossible without its approval.
Victor Ponta comments:
- We have completed a feasibility study of the project. Of course, the costs are high, but in the case of the successful implementation of Romania will be the first country in Central and Eastern Europe, which will have its own high-speed rail line. He also noted that building of 1 km high-speed rail line will cost about US$20 million for the country’s state budget.
